Gary Weiss - Faculty

Gary graduated from South Side High School, Class of ’53 and lettered in
baseball, basketball, and volleyball. Following graduation, he matriculated from
Ball State University with his B.S. in Education and a Master of Arts in
Education. He taught and coached basketball at Leo High School and then took an
opportunity to teach at The American High School of Dreux in Dreux, France,
where he met his wife Geraldine. He ran an officers' club for the U.S. Air Force
in Tokyo, Japan for two years, and would later serve as Principal of the
Tachikawa High School on base as a civilian. He coached soccer at Dreux and
brought his expertise back to Fort Wayne to help grow the sport in his hometown.
Gary married his beloved, Geraldine Osmond, on July 4, 1964, in Rome at the
Piazza de Campidoglio and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last year.
The remainder of his career was at the Fort Wayne State Developmental Center,
where he worked as an administrator.
He enjoyed playing tennis, ping-pong and any sport he could will his joints
to cooperate with. He also loved his children and grandchildren immensely; never
missing any of their sporting events and was always there with a subtle coaching
eye, no matter the sport. He loved Clear Lake, Indiana and sharing it with
others. His care for the most vulnerable among us was exceptional, as was his
sense of humor.
Gary is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Geraldine; sons, Stephen G.
Weiss, Bradley A. Weiss, and David B. Weiss; grandchildren; Matthew Weiss, Luke
Weiss, Merideth Weiss, Braden Weiss, Charles Weiss, Max Weiss, Nolan Weiss and
Nathan Weiss; brothers, James Weiss Jr., and Ron Weiss; and many nieces and
nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Marianne Henry.
Celebration of Life is 1:00 PM, Thursday, July 3, 2025 at D.O. McComb &
Sons Funeral Homes - Maplewood Park, 4017 Maplecrest Rd with calling two hours
